PRIVACY

Your privacy is important to the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Barbados (ICAB). The purpose of this Privacy Policy is to explain how ICAB collects, uses, discloses, and retains your information.

1. WHAT IS ICAB

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Barbados (ICAB) is the professional membership organisation representing approximately 1,074 Chartered Accountants in Barbados along with 789 students pursuing professional accounting qualifications. ICAB is the regulator and standard setter for accounting and auditing in Barbados. It is a body corporate created by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Barbados (Incorporation) Act 1974 (Cap. 369A). According to the legislation ICAB has the responsibility to; 

  1. Promote, foster and maintain the highest standards of accounting in public practice, the public service and commercial and industrial spheres.
  2. Safeguard and enhance the professional standing, interest and reputation of accountants who are members thereof and are employed in the spheres specified above.
  3. Maintain the highest standards of professional etiquette and ethics amongst its members and encourage the observance of such standards among non-members.
  4. Express its views to the Government, public authorities, commissions of enquiry and similar bodies regarding matters affecting its members and the profession.

2. YOUR CONSENT

When you provide ICAB with your personal information, you consent to ICAB’s collection, use, disclosure and retention of your information in accordance with this Privacy Policy and as otherwise permitted by the Laws of Barbados.

3. PERSONAL INFORMATION

Personal information is information such as name, date of birth, mailing and shipping addresses, email address and phone numbers about an identifiable individual. 

  • How ICAB collects your personal information

    Members and non-members may be asked to voluntarily provide their personal information to ICAB anytime they are in contact with ICAB, including contact by telephone, cell phone, email or fax machine, through the ICAB website, or in person. In those circumstances you can choose not to provide certain requested personal information, but then you may not be able to purchase products, register for seminars, pay annual subscription fees, or use certain features of ICAB’s website.

    You might also provide ICAB with the personal information of other persons, such as business associates or co-workers. Please ensure that you have the consent of these other persons before you provide their personal information to ICAB.

  • How ICAB uses your personal information

    ICAB uses your personal information for various purposes, and as otherwise permitted by law, including (a) to contact and correspond with you regarding your membership, transactions and your use of ICAB’s products and services, to provide you with customer care services, and to provide you with information regarding ICAB’s announcements, upcoming events, products and other features; (b) to facilitate transactions and process orders and payments for products and services purchased by you, to contact you regarding billing and payment discrepancies and to validate receipts; (c) to process and respond to your comments, queries and requests, and to otherwise administer ICAB’s relationship with you; (d) to personalize and improve your user experience; and (e) to develop, deliver and improve ICAB’s products, services and advertising. 

    ICAB may use personal information to create non-personal information, and ICAB may then use, disclose, transfer, and retain the non-personal information in accordance with this Privacy Policy

4. NON-PERSONAL INFORMATION

ICAB also collects non-personal information (information that is not about an identifiable individual) including information that has been aggregated or otherwise made anonymous so that it no longer relates to an identifiable individual. For example, ICAB’s website may automatically collect non-personal information such as the dates and times users access the website.

ICAB may use, disclose, transfer, and retain non-personal information for any purpose and in any manner. 

5. COOKIES AND OTHER TECHNOLOGIES 

ICAB’s website may use “cookies” or other similar technologies to collect information that helps ICAB improve the user experience. You may choose to decline or disable cookies if your web browser permits, but if you do so, some of our services may not function correctly.

ICAB may use web beacons, pixels or gif tags, and action tags to confirm that email messages have been delivered and opened.

6. SOCIAL NETWORKING AND SIMILAR SITUATIONS

When you use certain aspects of ICAB’s website or other services, or post information to an ICAB forum, chatroom, or other social networking service (such as ICAB’s Facebook or Twitter pages), the personal information that you post or share is visible to other persons and can be read, collected, used, and disclosed by other persons, including to send unsolicited messages. You are solely responsible for the personal information that you choose to post or share in those situations. ICAB has no control over or responsibility or liability for the use, disclosure and retention of the personal information that you disclose in those situations, and the use, disclosure, and retention disclosure of this information is not subject to this Privacy Policy.

7. DISCLOSURE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION 

  • Suppliers and Service Providers

    ICAB may disclose your personal information to ICAB’s suppliers and service providers to provide products and services to ICAB that assist us in using your personal information in accordance with this Privacy Policy, and as otherwise permitted by law.

  • Others

    ICAB may disclose your personal information if ICAB reasonably believes disclosure is necessary or appropriate in connection with national security, law enforcement, or other issues of public importance. ICAB may also disclose your personal information as otherwise required or authorised by law, or if ICAB reasonably believes the disclosure is necessary or appropriate to protect and enforce ICAB’s legal rights, interests, and remedies or protect the business, operations, or members of ICAB or other persons. ICAB has no control, over or responsibility or liability for the use, disclosure and retention of you personal information disclosed in those circumstances, and use, disclosure and retention of the disclosed information is not subject to this Privacy Policy.

8. PROTECTION OF PERSONAL INFORMATION

ICAB employs reasonable safeguards – including administrative, technical, and physical measures – appropriate to the sensitivity of the personal information in its possession or under its control in order to protect that information from unauthorised access, collection, use, disclosure, disposal, or similar risk. 

 

9. OTHER INFORMATION

  • Business Contact Information

    To the extent permitted by law, the provisions of this Privacy Policy concerning personal information do not apply to information (e.g. name, business address and phone numbers) that enables you to be contacted at a place of business.

     
  • Employment

    ICAB may use and disclose your personal information to administer and process your application for employment with ICAB and related matters.

  • Other Websites/Online Services

    ICAB’s website and online services may contain links to other websites and online services. When you use those links you are contacting other websites or services. ICAB has no responsibility or liability for, or control over, those other websites or services or their collection, use, disclosure and retention of your personal information. Please refer to the privacy policies and terms and conditions that apply to those other websites or online services.


  • Policy Changes

    ICAB may change this Privacy Policy from time to time, and ICAB’s collection, use, disclosure, and retention of your personal information will be governed by the version of this Privacy Policy in effect at that time. Accordingly, you should check the “Last updated” date of this Privacy Policy (at the beginning of this document) and review any changes since the last version.
